Independent film thrives when it has the right stage, and The Director’s Cut: Indie Filmmaker Showcase is looking to provide exactly that. Organized by @social.house.la, a hospitality events club set to officially launch in 2026, this new series blends cinema, community, and connection into one evening designed for both film lovers and industry insiders.
The debut event takes place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in Los Angeles. Tickets are priced at $20 and can be secured through Eventbrite or Joinlinks.

The vision behind the series is simple: give up-and-coming filmmakers a consistent platform, spotlight their work, and help them network with industry professionals . If all goes as planned, the showcase will become a bi-monthly tradition .
The evening will feature five filmmakers, each bringing their own unique perspective to the screen:
Courtney — An NYU Film School graduate with credits on Baby Driver, Black Panther, Top Gun, and Space Jam. She’ll premiere her short Sojourner’s Truth, promote her web series I Only Drive at Night, and serve as the evening’s host.
Armie Hicks Jr. — Best known as an actor, Hicks has stepped behind the camera to tell stories that move beyond stereotypes. His latest project, inspired by a contact working in the field of anti-trafficking, addresses sex trafficking with honesty and urgency. Already screened at multiple festivals, his film has taken home awards.
Malik — A Los Angeles native with over a decade in film, Malik studied in Arizona before returning home to present sold-out screenings, including two at Art Share DTLA. His documentary-style films examine modern dating with the rawness of everyday life, drawing comparisons to the look and feel of Atlanta.
Anton — A filmmaker and director of photography with a technical eye, Anton dissects lighting, sound, and camera angles both in his work and on his Instagram (@anton.usikov.dp). He’ll showcase a music video and a comedic short, demonstrating how precision and artistry go hand in hand.
Shaun — Exploring the balance between art and survival, Shaun’s short film captures the struggles of a working actor. Shot in a single day, it’s part of a planned seven-part series that promises to dive deeper into the reality of chasing dreams while paying bills.

Attendees can also look forward to so much more including:
A curated lineup of short films with distinct voices.
Behind-the-scenes insights directly from the filmmakers about their creative processes.
A chance to network with film enthusiasts, creators, and professionals in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
A complimentary mocktail, a surprise wellness-inspired blend crafted by SOCIAL HOUSE’s founder with seasonal fruit and citrus.

The event offers both an engaging night out for film enthusiasts and a focused environment for creatives seeking collaboration or the next breakthrough voice in independent cinema.
The hope is that The Director’s Cut will establish itself as a fixture in LA’s creative calendar, a place where storytelling comes alive on the screen and new careers begin to take shape off it.

With limited seating, a welcoming atmosphere, and a carefully curated program, the showcase promises an evening of discovery and connection within Los Angeles’s vibrant indie film scene.
