This election has resulted in a Board where nearly 60% of the members are industry veterans with over a decade of experience.
The Production and Technology Branch and Animation Branch did not hold elections.
The Academy comprises 19 branches, each typically represented by three governors who play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the organization. However, some branches have different representation due to their recent establishment or specific structural needs. The Animation Branch, recently added to the Academy, is represented by two governors, reflecting its growing but still emerging presence within the organization. Similarly, the Short Films Branch, also a newer addition, is represented by a single governor, acknowledging its specialized focus within the film industry. The Production and Technology Branch, which deals with the technical and behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking, is likewise represented by one governor, highlighting its unique role.
Chris Tashima
Governors, including those appointed by the board-at-large, can serve up to two consecutive or non-consecutive three-year terms. After completing these terms, they must take a two-year hiatus before they are eligible to serve again. This rule ensures a rotation and infusion of fresh perspectives within the Board while allowing experienced members to return and contribute further. Governors can serve a lifetime maximum of 12 years, which promotes a balance between continuity and renewal in the Academy’s leadership.
Pam Abdy
The Board of Governors sets the Academy’s strategic vision, preserves the organization’s financial health, and assures the fulfillment of its mission.
