Review: Exploring the Characters of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire Season Two

Updated: May 11

By Tammy Reese

Blood, love, and theater, oh my! In my character review of season two of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, Jacob Anderson’s (Louis de Pointe du Lac) acting prowess shines brilliantly once again, elevating the series to new heights. He leads the cast as one of the best actors of 2024. Assad Zaman’s portrayal of the Vampire Armand adds a layer of intrigue, seduction, and power. He has a magnetic energy on screen which will make you not want to take your eyes off of him. He is the stand out character of the season. While Ben Daniels captivates us as Santiago, leaving audiences craving more. Eric Bogosian’s portrayal of the interviewer Daniel Molloy injects the series with more sarcasm and depth, forging a profound connection with the vampire Louis amidst the chaos. Despite the distractions and interview interferences, Eric’s character, Daniel Molloy proves to be the quintessential interviewer for vampires. And of course, Sam Reid’s haunting and powerful presence as Lestat de Lioncourt this season makes him a fan favorite yet again, which leaves another lasting impression, making season two a must-watch for fans of the supernatural genre. More on my review of the characters below.

“Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire,” is set to premiere on May 12. Created by Rolin Jones for AMC Networks, the series is a hit amongst the Anne Rice fandom and the entire horror community alike. In season two, the saga unfolds as vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac, portrayed by Jacob Anderson, recounts his tumultuous journey to journalist Daniel Molloy, played by Eric Bogosian. Louis delves into his encounters with fellow vampires, including the enigmatic Armand, portrayed by Assad Zaman. As secrets from the past unravel, Molloy endeavors to unearth the truths concealed within Louis’s memories. The stellar cast, featuring Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Assad Zaman, Delainey Hayles, Ben Daniels, Eric Bogosian, and Luke Brandon Field delivers powerful performances under the guidance of executive producers Mark Johnson, Rolin Jones, Mark Taylor, and Christopher Rice. Despite the tragic loss of Anne Rice, her legacy lives on through this mesmerizing adaptation.

The heart beat of the show, Jacob Anderson gives us more this season with his compelling, outstanding, breathtaking, and flawless performance. He was born to play Louis de Pointe du Lac. He thrives in each scene and gives us a library of emotions that only a true actor who studied their craft to perfection can tap into. He is the highlight of the series and overly enjoyable to watch.

Assad Zaman plays the role of the Vampire Armand. After masking as the help in season one, it was then revealed that Armand is the love of Louis de Pointe du Lac’s life. As we look back on Armand’s previous journey of leading the vampire coven and being the head of the Theatre Des Vampires in Paris, Assad shines bright with an masterful and enchanting performance. His fashion this season is just as impeccable as his acting. He also has so many cool gifts (vampire powers) to flex.

Fan favorite, Sam Reid who plays the role of Lestat de Lioncourt gave us an unforgettable performance in season 1. Sam Reid is a true acting masterclass. In season 2, Sam turns it up a notch and delivers an alluring, transformative and outstanding performance. Lestat continues to be one of the most beloved characters of the immortal universe and always will be, thanks to Sam Reid.

Eric Bogosian who plays Daniel Molloy aka The Interviewer brings the laughs and deep moments of this new season. His portrayal of this role is very appealing. Like in season 1, Daniel still doesn’t take any crap from vampires, yet we do get to witness the human that he is, have human moments amongst the dead. Daniel Molloy is such a powerhouse character in this epic series! Eric does a fantastic job!

Newly cast is the super talented Delainey Hayles who takes over the role of Claudia from Bailey Bass. Delainey steps into this role with a smooth transition on screen as if she held this role since day one. The chemistry she has with leading man, Jacob Anderson is pure authenticity. She nailed this role!

Ben Daniels plays the role of Santiago, “the leading vamp thespian of the Theatre des Vampires. Ben did not come to play in this role. He owns this role wholeheartedly, bringing magic and electrifying passion to his performance. Once again, I say, you'll be craving for more!

Luke Brandon Field is the one to be on the lookout for. As he continues his role as Young Daniel Molloy, his performance will leave you on the edge of your seat. He's extremely exciting to watch this season. Stay tuned!

Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on a job well done! I'm highly moved and impressed by season two!
