Jess Star: Fashion, Feeling, and Fearless

Entertainer Jess Star doesn’t just walk into a room — she arrives, radiating charisma, creativity, and conviction. The singer, songwriter, and fashion designer is the kind of multifaceted artist who effortlessly blurs the line between pop star and poet, runway muse and rebel.

From the start, Jess’s presence captivates. “It just gives sensuality and confidence,” she says, reflecting on the boldness of her style. But for Jess, there’s more behind the glitz than glam. Each song, each look, and each creation has intention — and often, a story. That balance between artistic expression and responsibility is something she takes seriously, especially as a mother of two.
“I don’t feel pressure to tone it (my music) down because I already feel like I do a pretty good job at not being explicit,” she explains. “There’s a lot of over-sexualized music. I’m a mom, so I’m just like, ‘No, I don’t want my daughter to sing this,’ because my daughter does sing my songs, you know, so I have to be very careful. That goes with music videos as well. I can’t just do anything.”
This awareness isn’t about limiting her creativity — it’s about refining it. Jess walks the tightrope of authenticity and intention with ease, weaving sensuality and substance into both her visuals and verses. She attributes it to her Louisiana roots and her California matriculation.

Her songwriting, often deeply personal, reflects this same duality. “The song “Until You” was definitely about a person,” she reveals. “They’ll never know who it was for, but it was. All my songs are usually toward a feeling or a feeling someone has given me. I pretty much have a song for almost every person I’ve dated… unfortunately,” she laughs.
Jess's musical roots trace back to her childhood. “I used to go to my brother’s recording sessions because my mom would have me and my sister singing with her in church,” she recalls. “So I dabbled (with singing) a little when I was probably nine. But getting back as an adult, seriously, I’ve definitely been doing it for about ten years now.”
In addition to her music, Jess has fully stepped into fashion design — a craft born of necessity and evolved through self-expression. “My parents didn’t have money to get us cute clothes for school,” she says. “They would probably go to Goodwill or whatever and get us some unattractive stuff. I would just cut up stuff and try to make it my own.”
Now, two years into designing professionally, Jess is reclaiming that early spark. “I’ve been trying to get back into some things I liked as a child,” she says. Her designs are more than fabric — they’re statements. “Every time I make something new, it just feels more powerful.”
Despite the strength she exudes, there’s often a misperception that trails her. “I think people think I’m naïve since I really do give off a playful energy,” she says. “Most people think I’m in my early 20s or whatever — and I’m 33. Like, I’ve been around the block a couple times.”
Still, Jess doesn’t mind being underestimated. “It’s comical,” she says. “I would rather someone think that than actually know that I know what I’m doing. I think it’s like a weapon.”
That vulnerability — the exposure that comes with being seen and known--is something she

wrestles with, especially when it comes to her music. “ Writing a love song is more vulnerable than walking into a room wearing something I created,” she admits. “Even when I feel like a song is ready, I’m still really nervous and self-conscious that people are going to know how I felt about that one.”
Still, she continues to push boundaries. Whether it’s through daring designs or sincere lyrics, Jess Star commands attention on her own terms.
“My style, my music — they come from the same place,” she reflects. “They’re about feeling something. Power. Passion. And maybe even a little bit of pain.”
Jess Star isn’t afraid of being misunderstood. She thrives in that tension — between strength and softness, past and possibility. And as she continues to evolve, both as an artist and as a woman, she makes it clear: she’s not dimming her light for anyone.
