Mike Majik Boyd is a multi-talented, award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, athlete, and accomplished baseball guru. He is the creator of StandStill Baseball, The Log Workout, and the 30 philosophies of BaseAll.
Q: What came first, singing or playing Baseball?
I started singing at church when I was four. Immediately after church, my brothers and I went to play Baseball. There was no separation between the two. So I can say that they came together.
Q: When did you discover you had special abilities?
As kids, we never questioned our abilities. Picture a cat sitting on a pole who wants to jump to another pole 15 feet away. He doesn't think about it; he just does it. We didn't just play Baseball; we breathed and lived Baseball. We thought about it day and night. We would shape the potatoes our mother cooked into baseballs. We hit baseball-shaped snowballs with a broomstick in the winter. It was our way of life.
Q: When did you decide to go professional?
My father owned the Meridian White Socks, a negro baseball team, where we played from age twelve to high school. The older players in our lives always came to watch us. They praised and encouraged us for our skills, so we always believed we were pros from the start.
To be a professional baseball player, you must have above-normal faculties, such as eyesight. Everybody knows about strength and speed. But we must also show character, integrity, pride, willingness, and a great desire to learn.
When desegregation started, schools became mixed, the scouts came looking for baseball players, and I got discovered. I wound up being the ace pitcher for two back-to-back state championship teams.
Q: How did you develop the women's baseball idea?
Everyone in my family loved playing ball, even my mother, who would always play with us for fun. She would hit the ball so hard that we had to cover our ears. My sister was also very good. However, there was another girl in town who was even better. Her name was Joanne. We all thought we were outstanding until we played Joanne. She would beat us all. After that, I gained much respect for women's abilities to play. However, they only had opportunities to play softball.
My dad taught me that if I saw something lacking that would benefit mankind, to do something about it. He was wise and believed in fair play for all.
So that was precisely what I did. Even though there was some resistance and pushback, I persevered and eventually succeeded in providing young girls the chance to play and enjoy a game that was traditionally only open to boys. This was a way for me to show gratitude for my mother, my sisters, Joanne, and all the girls around the country who have the same desire to play Baseball as men. So that's how women's professional Baseball started.

What is Standstill Baseball?
I created a new one-hour Baseball game called Standstill. The game is designed to enable men and women, and boys and girls, to compete equally in Baseball.
If you don't get enough exercise, your physicality will break down. If your physicality breaks down, your mentality will break down; if your mentality breaks down, your spirituality will break down. So we need to ensure that adults and children are physically active to maintain all levels of life that cause a person to stand tall and proud!
People must first have the desire to get in shape. However, to get results, they need to exercise physically to reap the mental and spiritual value of a great workout. Without exercise, you cannot possibly be your best self.
That's what makes StandStill Baseball great.
Q: What is the Ministry of Baseball?
I created the 30 philosophies of BaseAll because Baseball is becoming obsolete. Baseball only teaches you part of what you need to know; BaseAll teaches all you need to know.
God said when he comes, be ready, not get ready. If our children are exposed to various perspectives, they will be more accepting of others despite their differences. However, if we keep them sheltered, they will be afraid of what they don't know, leading to separation. Therefore, it is up to us as a nation to challenge each other to become more proactively positive.
Q: Where does music fit in?
I don't know any other way to live. So I am writing a song as I talk to you. I wake up at night writing. I go to bed writing, or something goes ding dong, and there's a song!
I don't write music for the accolades. Instead, I write music to touch the human soul and make you question if your heart is in the right place.
I write on many subjects: message music, gospel music, and rock and roll. I also do a tribute to Sam Cooke. Two of my top songs are "American Soldier Thank You (for all the things you do)" and "To Be A Marine" I've written songs about Hawaii that make people want to move to Hawaii. I write about majesty, love of positivity, and making people feel good.
Happiness is a physical expression. Joy is an inside good feeling; when people feel good, they want to do great things for others to share the joy. So to put a smile on somebody's face on purpose with Intention that, to me, is being a human being.
The music industry is excellent but leans so much toward one thing. When there is such a multiplicity of people out there who need to be reached and who need to be touched. There is nothing more Universal than music to touch someone's heart.
Q: In these post-Covid times, do you have any words of encouragement for our audience?
For those who have suffered so much through these difficult times, and the negativities that it brought to our society and how it is making us act toward each other, we all must remember that if we want things to improve, that starts with us. So we must begin to be kinder to each other and commit to performing good tidings with Good Intentions.
We must treat each other more humanely and stop discussing being Americans. Instead, we need to discuss being human beings because before we were categorized as Republicans or Democrats, we were chosen as Human Beings.
God said to give is to receive! So I am asking you today:
Have you given good Intentions today?
Have you given goodwill today?
Have you helped rake somebody's yard today?
Have you allowed that little old lady to walk across the street today?
Have you tried to help somebody get a job out there, or have you given somebody a decent hug without expecting anything in return today?
The world will feel better when the world does better, and only then will we get better. We cannot be friends if we're going to act as enemies. We can't be a country if we're going to work separately. So we all have to stand up for once and throw the negativity off our backs and out of our minds. Let us put love in our hearts.
And for all the people who say love every day but don't know what love is, let me tell you, LOVE is the carrying out of Good Intentions!
Nobody feels love when you are hitting them, beating them, lying to them, cheating, disrespecting, or neglecting them. If you want to see someone happy, make someone happy.
However, they feel love when you show them respect, pick up that piece of paper, put it in the garbage can, and help someone cross the street safely; then, they feel loved and cared for.
So love is the carrying out of Good Intentions; it starts with each of us committing to doing good deeds. Then and only then will we see improvements around us and create a better world.
Love is THE answer.
