There are many issues facing Hollywood today, and which one is considered the most pressing can depend on who you ask. Some of the issues that have received significant attention in recent years include:
Diversity and inclusion: There has been a push for greater diversity and inclusion in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera. This includes efforts to increase the representation of underrepresented groups, such as people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities.
Individuals with disabilities like dyslexia have been working in the industry without disclosure for many years to avoid the stigma of being labeled learning disabled.
Sexual harassment and assault: The entertainment industry has been the subject of numerous allegations of sexual harassment and assault, leading to calls for greater accountability and changes to the culture of the industry. Many new policies are in effect.
Mental health: The high pressure and demanding nature of the entertainment industry can take a toll on the mental health of those working in it. There have been efforts to address this issue and provide support for those in the industry who may be struggling. Post Traumatic stress is at the center of treatment today.
Streaming and the future of film and television: The rise of streaming platforms has disrupted the traditional business models of the film and television industry, leading to changes in how content is produced, distributed, and consumed.
Political polarization and censorship: The entertainment industry has often been a platform for political expression, and there have been debates about the role of Hollywood in promoting or suppressing certain viewpoints. Many people see this as a political wedge issue.
