There's a moment every film composer dreams of when the music that once lived quietly behind moving images steps into the spotlight and speaks entirely for itself. For acclaimed composer Guy Renardeau, that moment became reality in 2026, when his celebrated work Earth Sounds was brought to life by the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (TSSO) in Thessaloniki, Greece. Under the artistic direction of Simos Papanas and general direction of Giorgos Vranas, with 80 musicians pouring their individual mastery into a single unified sound, the performance transformed Renardeau's cinematic compositions into a standalone concert experience. Heart of Hollywood Magazine sat down with the multi award-winning composer to talk about the emotional power of hearing one's music performed live, the electricity of a receptive audience, and what it truly means to watch a score once written for the screen take on a life entirely its own.

Who is Guy Renardeau
Guy Renardeau is a Dutch-born music virtuoso based in Los Angeles, acclaimed for his work as a film and television composer and for his dynamic career in blues and rock. His distinctive style blends cinematic orchestration with contemporary soundscapes, creating deeply emotional musical narratives. Renardeau's compositions have earned numerous international awards, including the HMMA, HIMA, Clouzine, and an Emmy Award for Best Music Entertainment Experience. A GRAMMY®-voting member and part of the BAFTA, European Film Academy, and World Soundtrack Awards Academy, he continues to collaborate internationally through his Apollo Recording & Film Studio.
Renardeau has headlined international music festivals and performed alongside renowned artists including DJ Kypski, Jimmy Grego (Lenny Kravitz, Scott Henderson), Hans Dulfer, Omar Dykes, and Snowy White. He has also led the Gothic rock band Lemming and the project Guy Renardeau Stream.
"During COVID, Heart of Hollywood and CEO Giovanna Salas had the opportunity to work together on a project involving 19 fashion films. It was challenging working virtually, but we were able to overcome this obstacle and find a shared vision to complete the work. For this collection, I felt that I needed to work with someone who would be able to feel and follow direction to bring a musical voice to life for the project. Based on our previous work, I believed Guy was that person — and thankfully, he agreed". — Giovanna Salas, CEO, Heart of Hollywood
The Interview
1. What emotions do you experience when you hear your film music performed live by an orchestra instead of in the recording studio? Having your music performed live by a symphony orchestra is a special experience. For weeks, and sometimes months, you work alone in a studio on a film scoring project or a concert composition, listening only to virtual instruments. During a collaboration with a symphony orchestra, musicians who have dedicated their entire lives to a specific instrument play your music. This dedication, musicality, and expression, brought together by 80 musicians playing different instruments, make your music a unique experience.

2. How does the energy of a live audience influence the way you connect with your own compositions? The reactions of an audience hearing your music for the first time are special. The beauty of it is that their new experience is also a new experience for you as the composer.
3. Your recent concerts in Greece were warmly received. What made that tour particularly memorable for you? We gave several concerts with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (TSSO). What is memorable to me is the collaboration with the orchestra and the conductor, as well as the very positive atmosphere.
4. Do you ever hear new details or emotions in your music when it is interpreted by live musicians? Yes, because the sound is naturally very pure and organic.
5. How do you balance staying faithful to the original film score while allowing room for the orchestra's own artistic expression? Earth Sounds has been released as film music before. In film, the images predominate, and the music serves more as supplementary material to enhance the film's atmosphere. Now, performed as concert music, you truly hear for the first time how beautiful this music is even without the images.

6. Is there a particular piece from your film work that you always look forward to hearing performed live? Why? I would have loved to have celebrated Snow White Hip Hop Meets Orchestra and The Iceman with a symphony orchestra.
7. What do you hope audiences take away from experiencing your film music in a concert setting, separate from the films themselves? After this concert experience, I hope audiences will also seek out other music I've composed. Recently, I received many heartfelt compliments from the orchestra, the conductor, and the people who listened to my music. That gives you energy.
8. Can you share a moment during the Greece tour that reminded you why you became a composer? Composing music is something you are born to do; it is a passion and a way of life.
9. How has your approach to composing evolved after hearing your works performed live around the world? I arrived in Thessaloniki at 10 pm on Sunday evening and stood in front of the full orchestra by 9 am Monday morning. You have to get to work immediately and make any necessary corrections, because the sound is so much richer and you have to handle that properly.
10. For aspiring film composers, what is the most valuable lesson you've learned from bringing cinematic music from the studio to the concert hall?Composing for film, and then having your music performed live by a symphony orchestra, is truly the ultimate feeling the crowning achievement of your work.
