FIT, FIERCE, AND FINE

Model Tamara Manavi Commands Attention Just by Being Herself

People respond to results and Tamara Manavi is proof of what hard work mixed with relentless dedication can do. As a 41-year-old breaking into the fashion scene, she is coming in fit, fierce, and fine. This is a woman who has dedicated her life to all things healthy. She effortlessly commands attention whenever she walks into a room. Attractive and confident, she naturally demonstrates to others the importance of showing up as their authentic selves.

What made you decide to be a model?

I began modeling by accident. All my life I was told I was meant for it, but kept ignoring the real thought of acting on it. Bikini fitness modeling started it all, and then, over the last few years I became a real fashionista. People would ask me all the time, “who styled you?,” and it was mostly myself. I’ve always had a passion for fashion and dressing up. I became a fitness model first so I had the foundation of a healthy toned physique, and then decided to start putting together pieces that best suited my body. It was tough, because a toned, muscular physique is more challenging for dresses or pieces with flares or ruffles. I became frustrated with my body and started to question if I had made the correct choice. So I softened my physique and became more confident and happier with myself. I can now wear just about anything and walk with my head high with pride and ownership.

Who is your role model?

I just try to be better than I was yesterday, better in every way– mentally, physically, and emotionally. So, with that being said, my best self is what I aspire to be.

What modeling experience do you have?

Although I am a newbie to fashion modeling, I have experienced fitness modeling and bikini modeling. I am now dabbling in runway. I just recently had the amazing pleasure of walking for Ounsiray, for LA Swimweek.

What do you enjoy most about modeling?

I enjoy how it gives me confidence and makes me feel good about myself. It’s a true joy and passion of mine. To grace a runway or to sit in the audience is the most amazing feeling. It’s where I truly feel I am at my best.

What are some of your biggest modeling accomplishments?

This is a tough one, because different occasions were an accomplishment in their own ways, but I’ll name a couple. I was in the field of bikini fitness modeling, and having to be in the best shape and maintaining it has its challenges, but I put my best foot forward and owned it! Recently, I did my very first runway for Ounsiray by Siray Kong, as I mentioned and I honored to grace the cover of Muscle & Fitness HERS. It was an amazing experience, one of the best I’ve ever had. It allowed me to get my feet wet in the runway scene and I’m ready to see what it brings.

How do you prepare for a photo shoot?

I talk to my photographer first, so they get to know a little bit about me and to break the ice, as I can be shy at first. Once we get acquainted I go over the location and the theme for the shoot. Once we agree on that part, I move into the outfits, styles, colors, jewelry, shoes, and such. I make sure I prepare more than enough to have a variety of styles including the trendy ones. I try to keep hair and makeup simple to not take away from the fashion.

Who is your favorite designer and why?

Hands down, Bao Tranchi. I absolutely love her styles, her dresses are pure pieces of art. I feel my sexiest in her pieces and I adore how beautiful and detailed they are. I would wear one of her pieces for any red carpet event.

Why should an agency hire you?

I’m flexible and fun to work with. You can put me in almost anything and I can make fashion out if it. I’m willing to try new things, as you never know what you may miss out on. You can never judge a garment by the hanger it hangs on. When I step into the room, my presence is felt. I get attention just by being me.
