By Tammy Reese

Ekaterina Shevliakova doesn’t simply cover global culture , she lives it. From Moscow to London, Rome to Cannes, her career reflects a life shaped by movement, curiosity, and an instinct for being where the story truly unfolds. With a background in international journalism and years spent navigating fashion weeks, film festivals, red carpets, and political discourse, Ekaterina has built a credible reputation as a journalist who understands both the surface glamour and the deeper conversations behind it.

Fluent in the language of culture, cinema, fashion, and global affairs, she has interviewed everyone from Hollywood actors and fashion legends to political figures and cultural leaders, always with an eye for authenticity. Whether reporting from the Venice Film Festival, Milan Fashion Week, or international humanitarian events, Ekaterina brings clarity, context, and global awareness to every story she tells. Her work stands at the intersection of elegance and intellect where style meets substance, and storytelling remains deeply human.

You have a rich international background — born in Moscow, educated partly in London, and now deeply rooted in Italy. How have these multicultural experiences shaped your worldview and your approach to journalism?

Ekaterina: You are starting with a really good question! Yes, my life gave me a lot of chances to see many countries. And much of my experience was not my choice. It just so happened that my parents lived in Moscow where I graduated from an important University of International Relations, the choice of my profession was recommended to me by my mum and dad who had studied in the same prestigious school before. As a child, I was travelling with them to my father’s positions as a diplomat firstly to Ghana and later to UK (London) where I managed to get a very good command of English language. So I have been travelling the world since my childhood. Then after the economic collapse in Russia, I was unable to find a job in Moscow and was forced to choose the place where to make use of my professional skills of a journalist and publicist. There was no demand for public relations in Russia at all during those days. Italy was my dream and perspectives of studying a new language and getting to know its exclusive cultural traditions were very appealing.

My very active and inquisitive personality demanded new impressions and knowledge. Italy and especially Rome, charmed me to the extent that I did not want to leave it for a long time. In Rome you don’t have much choice of work fields: tourism, history of culture or fashion. Abundance of knowledge I received living there demanded to be put on paper hence I became a journalist writing about fashion. So you can see that everything I’m doing now corresponds to my active personality. So it was given to me by God due to my strong wishes and efforts.

You’ve built an impressive portfolio writing for outlets such as Vogue Russia, l’Officiel Russia, FABUK, and more. What has been the most defining moment in your career so far?

Ekaterina: I had so many defining moments really…One of them was a Christmas concert that I happened to introduce in an old church in the city of Bethleham. Just imagine me crossing the empty street under vicious glances of armed Palestinian soldiers carrying heavy guns who probably were seeing a white woman for the first time in their lives. But, I had to cross that street because my hair was to be done before the concert and there was nobody to accompany me to the only hairdressers across the street.

But most memorable was of course my participation in a few shows on Italian TV right after the Russian-Ukranian war broke out in 2022. I have written the book about that experience which will be out of print soon.

You have interviewed a wide range of notable figures — from Hollywood actors to opera singers and political personalities. What, in your opinion, makes for a powerful and meaningful interview?

Ekaterina: Being on the red carpet is quite an experience in itself! The feeling you get there is very special and difficult to describe. I was always elated to be among famous and interesting people. I should admit not all of them are extremely intelligent and knowledgeable but each and every one of them is quite a character. There are a lot of interesting personalities I’ve interviewed such as Eva Longoria, Alberta Ferretti, Boldouin brothers, etc.

As a correspondent, you’ve covered prestigious events like the Venice Film Festival and Cannes. What has been your most memorable red-carpet interview?

Ekaterina: For the interview to be really interesting to the audience (that’s what we journalists are streaming for) there should be a very interesting and popular object in front of you. The person should not be grim and straightforward in his answers. There’s always have to be a touch of humour and comradeship between the interviewer and the counterpart. A touch of mutual understanding even you are talking about international relations or global economics. And that is the work and ability of the person who asks questions to establish such an atmosphere. Only in this case the interview is going to be a success. And you always feel it when you as an interviewer are doing everything correctly and asking right questions.

Having reported from world-renowned events such as Art Basel, Monaco Yacht Show, Formula 1, Milan Fashion Week, and numerous film festivals — what is the biggest misconception people have about working these high-profile events?

Ekaterina: Oh! There are many misconceptions regarding a journalistic job. First of all, most people think that you are going to take interviews primarily to entertain yourself: wear a nice dress, show your wonderful make up and have a drink or two. Hardly anybody understands what a severe work it often can be. You often have to spend hours on a red carpet trying to catch some celebrity willing to stand still for a moment to talk to you. They are always busy and rushing somewhere because of major interest to their personas. And I have to often do this work wearing high heels and a long dress under a blazing sun or pouring rain. Besides, the counterpart can often be not a very good speaker or has a bad command of the English language. In such cases you are bound to gracefully give him or her hints to what to say.

What is your process for preparing to interview global celebrities and industry leaders under the fast-paced environment of red carpets?

Ekaterina: It all depends on the situation. When the interview is planned in advance I study the bio of my vis-à-vis, try to find some info about the person and their job. But very often it so happens that an interesting interview comes up unexpectedly. Especially often it happens during film festivals, exhibitions and fairs or some scientific symposiums. The chance to speak to an interesting person arises unexpectedly and in such cases I consider it a sheer luck to have a little time to have a glance into Google or rather have to search every corner of my memory to remember the details I could be speaking about to a guy or a girl.

As someone who bridges culture, fashion, and entertainment, how do you view the evolving role of media in shaping global cultural narratives?

Ekaterina: A very interesting question! We are living in very exciting times of greatest technological changes. Usage of AI in all spheres of our life makes everybody be alert and ready for great improvements. Especially it is visible and appropriate in media. Right now millions of people stop producing content by themselves and delegate majority of work including thinking and creative writing to robots and algorithms. It looks like “mental exertion” is going out of fashion nowadays. Media is the first “medium” that indicates all the changes in the outer world and the way it is performing starts reshaping cultural, social and mental narratives.

You have also worked alongside organizations such as UNICEF and participated in charity-focused events like the Global Gift Gala. Why is humanitarian work important to you?

Ekaterina: I haven’t not undertaken any purely humanitarian project myself. Not yet. But of course, I’m forseing organization of some extensive charity work based on my Global Event Magazine. The major thing in such an activity is to do it with open heart and to be absolutely sincere in your intentions: not writing off taxes money, not pretending to be “good” in other people’s eyes. But really share your heart with people in need and help them as much as you can.

What future projects, goals, or new directions are you excited to pursue next?

Ekaterina: I’m very much excited about the difficult process of developing my own online publication “Global Event Magazine” (globaleventmagazine.com) that is being published in English and Italian languages and is dedicated to a wide range of readers because it encompasses different fields of life: Culture, Social events, Politics, Finance and Economics. It’s a hard work that takes a lot of time and attention to be a CEO. This work is going to devour a great deal of my time and efforts.

What message would you like readers of Heart of Hollywood Magazine to take away from your story?

Ekaterina: The message from my heart and from my “GEM” magazine stuff would be as follows:

Be attentive to all the changes that are happening around you not only in the immediate surroundings, but always try to have a more global look at everything that is happening in the world. Do not stick to well known and traditional forms of communication trying to have a wider observance of events.

Always be attentive to the signs and signals the universe gives you and be proactive. Try to formulate for yourself the major idea you want to follow and achieve. Only on the way of trying to achieve your personal goal you are going to be happy and satisfied.

Be Happy in the 2026 New Year!
