Día de los Muertos in Los Angeles: Where the City Gathers to Remember
By staff writer,

Día de los Muertos is not Halloween. It is a Mexican tradition of remembrance, when families build ofrendas to honor loved ones who have died. In Los Angeles, two of the city's best-known celebrations open on the same day, Saturday, October 24.
Hollywood Forever: The 27th Annual Celebration
On Saturday, October 24, from noon to midnight, Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, hosts its 27th annual Día de los Muertos. The cemetery describes it as the largest Día de los Muertos celebration outside of Mexico. Visitors can explore altars, live performances and cultural experiences across the historic grounds, and the event includes altar and costume competitions.
Music: DannyLux, Trish Toledo, Tropa Magica and Los Shadows, with DJs Que Madre, Joaquín and Dro Barlo.
Know before you go: Tickets are sold through TicketWeb. No outside food, drink or pets are allowed. The event is rain or shine, with parking at nearby Paramount structures. https://www.ladayofthedead.com

A Note of Respect
If you attend in face paint or traditional dress, do so with care for its meaning. Visit the altars quietly, ask before photographing families, and consider supporting the artisans who keep these traditions alive. Event details, times and prices are set by each organizer and may change, so please confirm on the official website before you go.
