In the college town of Claremont, in the eastern reaches of Los Angeles County, art lovers will find one of the region's newest museum buildings. Exhibitions and events at the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College are free and open to the public.

A New Home for an Old Collection

Pomona College's art museum dates to 1958. Its new building, designed by Machado Silvetti with Gensler, opened to the public in fall 2021. The 33,000-square-foot museum is built to LEED Gold standards and is named for trustee Janet Inskeep Benton, a 1979 alumna who gave $15 million. The collection numbers about 16,000 works, ranging from Native American art to Renaissance panel paintings.
