Welcome! I'm Denay Dominic, the founder of My Divine Beauty Obsession. I am a Certified Life Coach and Mindset Expert, and for over 18 years I have been a Mental Health Advocate. I am a mommy of two beautifully melanated children and we reside in Southern California. My Divine Beauty Obsession has been my home since June 2020, where I've celebrated the health, wellness, and beauty of women of color. I believe that we are divine beings and our beauty should resonate in our hearts and minds. Not just our faces. I'm all about mixing makeup, self-care, and health to promote self-love. I believe every woman deserves time to herself to care for her well-being.
Hi Denay, it's very nice to interview you for the Heart Of Hollywood Magazine. What inspired you to become a life coach and mindset expert?
During a time of spiritual ascension, I came into the knowledge and wisdom that the only person that was going to save me; was me. I was determined to thrive in life because I was tired of living in survival mode. I knew that in order to achieve the life that I wanted and deserved I’d have to make the necessary changes to the way I lived, thought, ate (food and media), and how I spoke to myself and others.
I invested in myself by taking courses that would lead me to heal my own trauma wounds and grow into my emotional intelligence. I began to fall in love with the woman that I was becoming and thought that everyone should feel this way about themselves regardless of their past or current circumstances. I wanted to share what I had learned and what worked for me in my own self-actualizing process. So, I decided to become a certified life coach.
By sharing my knowledge with empathy and love, I am able to guide my clients to:
1. Higher Levels of Happiness
2. Higher Self-Esteem
3. Stronger Confidence
4. Achieving Life Goals
5. Total Life Transformation
6. Discovery of Their Life Purpose
How did My Divine Beauty Obsession come about?
My Divine Beauty Obsession started as an Instagram page showcasing the flat lay photography of my makeup and skincare collection. I had no idea that it would take off in a completely different direction, as it did in July of that year when I realized I was not feeling fulfilled in my life. I wanted something more and something that was totally against the grain. I needed an activity that I thought would help me release my extra energy and keep from living on auto-pilot. So, I decided to create a blog that focused on my current interest. In what ways do you make a difference in others' lives through your line of work?
I introduce new ways of thinking to people who have been living their lives on auto-pilot. These are people who do the same way every day, but then expecting
things to change without doing the work to make that change.
What do you enjoy most about the work that you do?
It’s magical when I see my clients self-actualize and come back into their spiritual power.
When my clients get to that moment when they remember who they are- that they are powerful, gifted, and that they create their own reality.
How do you balance your mental health?
Well, I am an Empath, so a part of maintaining balance is to determine if the energy or the
emotions that I am either displaying or feeling are my own. If I determine that the energy is not from me then, I return it whoever it came from.
But if it the energy or emotions belong to me then there are several things that I do to maintain balance. For example, when I feel anxious, I will step away from what I am doing, and I will meditate or pray. I also practice grounding methods to keep myself sturdy and on solid foundation. In moments when I am sad, angry or depressed, I will have a mini therapy session with myself to determine the cause and what I need for myself in order to move past it. Another way that I keep myself balanced is by acknowledging my need to rest. I no longer allow myself to get into states of exhaustion because of how it negatively impacts my body. Being exhausted or not getting enough sleep can have massive repercussions on anyone’s mental clarity. I also try my very best to follow the nutritional guidelines of Dr. Sebi. I have found that by having a high alkaline diet I have much more energy, less joint pain and increased mental clarity.
My most favorite thing to do is go outside and purposefully sit facing the sun. The goal is to
absorb enough natural vitamin D for its prolonged healing effects. Lastly, I have a standing appointment with my therapist. At the end of every month, I take the opportunity to acknowledge my accomplishments for the past 4-5 weeks, check in on my self-awareness, set new goals for next month, and just fully focus on my needs.
What is a quote that you live by?
My favorite quote is “A lion never loses sleep over the opinions of sheep”. A lion knows who it is, so it doesn't need to listen to the opinion of sheep. If I were to lose sleep
over what others think of me, it would only forfeit my value, power, and authority that I've been created with.
What is a super fun fact about yourself that many may not be aware of?
I am an avid fan of Cryptozoology. It is a pseudoscience and subculture that aims to prove the existence of entities from the folklore record, such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Yeti, the Chupacabra, the Jersey Devil, or the Mokele-mbembe. My favorite cryptid is Bigfoot.
