When I enter a space for the very first time, my mind runs wild with creativity, my eyes are sharpened to details and my ears hear the despair in my client’s heart! I am Karen Larkin, the owner and founder of Karenna’s Design Studio. I have over 15 years of experience as an interior decorator with a passion to create peaceful spaces, not just beautiful spaces.
Peace is within us and should surround us! Your space can have a major impact on your overall well-being. As a designer, our desire is to create spaces that promote creativity and productivity, decrease stress and anxiety, and build self-esteem and self-confidence. A space where you can just take a minute to relax and breathe. A peaceful space should foster calmness, comfort and encompass your overall well-being.
At, Karenna’s Design, we believe that your space should be aesthetically pleasing to the eye while promoting peace and tranquillity with the everyday functionality of your space in mind. It is very important to listen to the needs of my clients. My goal as a professional interior designer is to create a tailored design, by allowing it to be a beautiful reflection of you and the people that live there.

What keeps you motivated to continue your creative journey as the founder of Karenna’s Design Studio?
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11. God has given me a gift to create beautiful spaces and I truly have a love and a passion for interior design. To get that call or have that conversation with a client that tells you they need your help is so fulfilling! When I enter a space for the first time is so euphoric, my mind runs wild with creativity, my eyes are sharpened to details and my ears hear the despair in my client’s heart!
I know it is more than decorating a space that is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to the eye but to be able to impact and transform the lives of the person or people that dwell within that space is the most rewarding and to know that I have accomplished an assignment from God. It is truly a gift when you can have a vision for a space and see it come to life.
We all deserve “Peace” in life and that peace starts at home! Creating “Peace” allows my clients to live in peace with a sense of freedom.
How has the design industry changed due to the pandemic? In what ways did you pivot?
The pandemic caused us to shift and reevaluate our lives. We spent more time at home and realized we didn’t like our spaces. So now with more people spending more time at home, they desire a place that they want to love and enjoy, so as a result, they are consulting with an interior designer to make changes within their home. For designers, we had to become more innovative. As a designer, we can now complete design projects virtually, mood boards, and E- design without going into a client’s home.
During the pandemic, my home became a marketing advertisement. I redecorated many spaces in my home and posted the finished product on social media and as a result, Kreative Kreations by Karenna’s was birthed. The birth of this business increased my clientele.
What are some must-have items you need when you begin the process of decorating and designing?
As a designer the must have are not just tangible items, but they are having a clear mind and a connection to the space to be designed. I need to hear and feel the despair in my client’s hearts of what they need to thrive and be at peace in that space. It is my job to deliver a beautiful but functional space for my clients and allow that space to be a true reflection of them.
What are some favorite memories from your latest interior design work?
I would have to say the best or my favorite design project is the one where my clients give me the freedom to create something they would have never imagined. Giving me the freedom to be creative. Having this freedom allows me to create a design that generally is outside of my client’s comfort zone.
Do you currently need help with your business? If so, what kind?
As business owners, we can all use help in our business. No one person can ever do it by themselves. I believe, “Do what you do best and hire someone to do the rest.” I’m looking for a graphic and website designer, social media content manager, administrative assistant, interior designer assistant, and as my company grows add interior designers and internship opportunities.
What do you hope for yourself and your company this year?
I desire to serve and help over 1,000 people this year whether it is through employment or creating peaceful spaces that will allow people to begin to operate at the height of their greatest potential and understand how their space impact and shape their life. I desire for the people I have been called too, too thrive and not just survive within their space.
