The Interview
How did Velocity begin? Tell us about the first moment you knew DJing and producing was your path.
Velocity began when I was in music school; the moment I was inspired to dj and produce was while watching a live techno/trance DJ show and being inspired on the dance floor to create.
You work across both electronic and rock music. How do these two worlds shape your sound?
Both electronic and rock music shape my sound. I am inspired by artists such as Bjork, Adam Beyer and Sasha. My first love is rock music, listening to artists like Evanescence and Nine Inch Nails. A recent concert reignited my love for rock. I am evolving by learning a new genre and producing rock music. I would like to integrate elements of electronic, rock and classical sounds to my music. I sing and play the flute and would like to integrate these elements to my music as well.
You have played Burning Man, Electric Love, Renegade, and Valhalla. Which set stands out most for you, and why?
Each set was special and different; I handpicked each song. I particularly enjoyed Burning Man; my set was a party full of positive energy in the desert, complete with a pyrotechnic octopus!
From opening at Studio Nightclub on New Year's Eve to performing at Lamborghini events, how do you read a crowd and adapt to each setting?
I enjoy being versatile as an artist- I prepare in advance for the setting I'm in (corporate or festival), and pay attention to the crowd while I play and respond to the audience appropriately. Djing is like cooking- it encourages you to live in the moment and add your own flavor!

As a delegate for the Juno Awards, what is your perspective on the Canadian music scene right now?
As a Delegate for the Juno Awards I am discovering that music production is becoming more appealing for women. Producing music can be an empowering experience!
Your new rock single “Midnight Sun” completes your upcoming EP. What is the story behind the song, and what can listeners expect?
Completing my EP, Midnight Sun will be a rock song. Listeners can expect classical elements such as beautiful string melodies, bold electric guitar, and ethereal lyrics. I wrote the song while traveling to Iceland, as I find that traveling inspires me to experience new things. The song is about exploring a new place, falling in love and being inspired to allow a new environment to inspire you. I would like to shoot a music video in a unique Arctic terrain, wearing a beautiful gown. I am also discovering how much I love songwriting!
Your dream is to DJ internationally at EDC. What would that moment mean to you, and what advice would you give women starting out as DJs and producers?
It would be a dream come true to DJ techno at EDC. I have been captivated by previous sets; Playing a set at neon gardens would be incredible. I would love to make the audience happy by playing amazing music! My advice to new artists is that each small action matters in contributing to a goal and to be joyful in the process.
What is your message to Heart Of Hollywood readers?
I am grateful to be featured in Heart of Hollywood Magazine- my message to readers is if you have a dream, follow it! I hope you enjoy my new EP coming out on Spotify and SoundCloud.
