Lexington, Kentucky Scarefest Weekend Recap

October 21–23 Scarefest Weekend took place in Lexington, Kentucky with epic Halloween season events taking place at Central Bank Center and at Lex Live.

Suppose you or anyone you know ever stood in a line for the newest pair of Jordans. In that case, you can imagine the lines each day for headliner Robert Englund, best known for his iconic role as Freddy Krueger in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise along with other icons such as Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), and Lance Henriksen (Bishop in the Alien film franchise).

Horror and paranormal fans came from around the country to also meet Jason Voorhees actors CJ Graham (Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives) and the “Jason of all Jasons” Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, and Jason X). Accompanying Jason and Freddy were cast members of Friday the 13th Part III, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, and the cast from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, which is one of the most successful films from the entire Elm Street franchise.

My horror-loving self came from New York State along with my dearest friend and media colleague LaKisa Renee from LaKisa Renee Entertainment. We were welcomed with open arms. Everyone was so kind and fun, and we left with tons of new friends. Speaking of friends we got to rekindle and reunite with some friends/legends from the horror community who were in attendance that we already knew such as Terry Kiser who portrayed the deceased title character of the comedy Weekend at Bernie’s and its sequel, Weekend at Bernie’s II, John Kassir (The voice of the Cryptkeeper), Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie), fan-favorite Felissa Rose (Sleep Away Camp), and last but not least our dear friend Rob Mello who is best known for his role as John Tombs in the Blumhouse breakout film, Happy Death Day, which he’s reprised in Happy Death Day 2U. Rob hosted the packed Scaryoke event.

Other events that took place included Horror Drag Theatre, the Scream Queen Contest, and a couple of innovative Costume contests, one of which LaKisa won during the Halloween Costume Extravaganza which is a famously fun Costume Ball and legendary entertainment VIP Party. LaKisa's Maleficent stole the show.

New folks we got to meet at Scarefest included Miguel A. Núñez Jr. (The Return of the Living Dead), Bill Moseley (Rob Zombie’s Firefly trilogy), and Jonathan Breck (Jeepers Creepers) to name a few.

Wes Forsythe known as The Voice of Scarefest kicked off the weekend with an iconic Black Carpet event dedicated to the celebrities that were in attendance. Wes is so full of life and energy and set off the weekend with such great vibes.

Shoutout to the cosplayers, and vendors who attended. The venues were perfect for the atmosphere. All ages, races, and backgrounds were a family and community for the weekend while all celebrating the love of horror and the paranormal. Everywhere I looked, people were excited, smiling, and having a blast meeting their favorite celebrities, enjoying the entertainment, the food, and the presence of each other.

I loved the sets such as The Stranger Things living room set, The Walking Dead hospital scene set, A Nightmare on Elm Street House, and omg the Krueger Jeep that was parked outside was too eye-catching and the hit of the weekend.

To say you got to meet Robert Englund and have a conversation with him is a bucket list moment checked off. Thank you Scarefest for making that dream come true.

Scarefest is a family-oriented event that I would highly recommend. I’ve been to tons of horror events, but Scarefest is one like I’ve never seen before. Don’t miss out next year yall!
