How to Strengthen your Self-Confidence

By Tammi Pickle

We all need to really believe we are strong, capable, and deserving of all good things in our lives. Some ways to be more self-confident in everything we do every day are…

1.       Self-care: Take care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically. Make sure to get enough sleep, eat a proper diet, exercise, and deal with stress in heathy ways. Do things that make you happy, have down time, enjoy your hobbies, and pamper yourself here and there.

2.       Be positive about yourself and know you deserve all the best: Don’t let people treat you with any less respect than you deserve. Focus on the positive things about yourself and your life, be grateful for your accomplishments and blessings.

3.       Remove toxic people from your life: If someone is bringing you down, they don’t deserve your time or energy.

4.       Set and achieve small goals: Start with setting small goals and working towards them. Break up your goals into small more attainable short-term ones until you reach your long-term goals.

5.       Challenge negative thoughts: When negative thoughts arise, challenge them with positive affirmations. Replace self-doubt with self-compassion and encouragement. You are your biggest fan.

6.       Surround yourself with supportive people: Be around people that love you, encourage you, lift you up, and make you feel good about yourself. By having positive relationships surrounding you will in turn boost your self-confidence.

7.       Practice assertiveness: Don’t be afraid to communicate your thoughts, needs, and boundaries. Standing up for yourself and expressing your opinions will make you stronger mentally.

8.       Take risks and step out of your comfort zone: Do something that may scare or intimidate you or you’ve been wanting to learn or try. Once you know you can do it, then you will be more confident about yourself and your abilities to conquer the unknown.

9.       Love yourself: Know that you truly deserve all the best and don’t let anyone make you feel any other way.

10.   Working through past traumas: Make an effort to talk about and work through traumas and triggers of any and all issues you have dealt with in the past. Sometimes this may start by talking with a close family member, friends, or your partner. I would also advise speaking to a trained professional counselor that can really guide you and help you work through any past issues you need to deal with while giving you the tools to navigate through them.

We all deserve happiness internally and surrounding us in our everyday lives. Life is short and we all deserve to live our best life. So, let’s all strive to be the best, most confident person we can be. We’re all in this together.
