How to Have Confidence in Dating

By Tammi Pickle

Know your value- Be positive about yourself and what you bring to the table. “You’re funny, thoughtful, or generous.” Feeling good about yourself is knowing your strengths and working on your weaknesses.

Be Positive- Being positive can change your outlook, your attitude, your disposition and how people see you and react to you. Try to have a positive outlook in all situations. Make a mental or physical note of good things that happened to you daily. Try to focus on the positives in your life and not dwell on the negatives.

Building social skills is like muscles- The more you do it the better you will get at it. Practice talking to strangers, starting up conversations takes risk. Be yourself and people will like you or they won't. Rejection is a name of the game, and you shouldn’t take to heart. Just learn and grow from every single experience.

Learn to be comfortable in yourself- Being confident in the way you look, act and speak. Practice being honest and showing the real you. Knowing you have flaws and embracing them. Use the things you feel good about and flaunt them.

Be prepared- Look good on the outside then you’ll feel good on the inside, and you will be more confident when speaking and interacting with everyone around you.

Being clear with what you want and need from someone- Know what you want in your relationship and being transparent to the other person. You don’t want to waste your time or theirs so be honest and upfront about what you want.

Be a good communicator- Ask questions and really listen to them. Be an interactive listener, when talking chime in on your own experiences to relate better to them.

Don’t be let down because of the outcome- If the date doesn’t go well don’t blame yourself, sometimes chemistry just isn’t there. Detach your ego from “being liked” and just focus on “being authentic”. When it's meant to be it will feel right.

Reflect- On what worked and what didn’t without being too hard on yourself. It's all a learning experience and take something good from every experience, learn and grow from it.

Repeat- It takes time to meet the right person, don’t give up and try to always be in a positive frame of mind.
