Expert Tips to Spring into Romance

By Billy Montgomery

Spring is a season when love is in the air! Relationship coach Natalie Stavola shares valuable insights and practical tips for couples and dating partners to create a lasting love that goes beyond just special occasions.

While love is often depicted as a whirlwind romance, characterized by grand gestures and passionate declarations, Stavola believes that true love is much more than just a fleeting emotion. It's a profound connection that is based on understanding, compassion, and mutual respect.“You have to be willing to put in the work.

Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, a birthday, an anniversary, or just a night out, knowing the partner’s expectations is key,” Stavola said.

Learn Your Partner's Love Language

Stavola's practice specializes in assisting men, but she believes that each person expresses and receives love in their own unique way. As a result, it is crucial to comprehend your partner's "love language" to build a stronger bond and ensure that the gestures of affection are truly meaningful.  “Take the time to discover which love language resonates most with your partner and make a sincere effort to express your love in ways that align with their preferences.

Don't Compare Yourself with Others

In today's age of social media, it is effortless to compare relationships with the ones showcased in curated photos and highlight reels. However, this habit of comparing love stories can lead to feelings of insecurity and dissatisfaction. Instead of focusing on external benchmarks of success, the relationship expert suggested that couples celebrate their relationship's unique qualities and cherish the special moments that they share with their loved ones.“You can use social media for ideas, but not compare your love with other people, Stavola said.  “People, online, don't always experience love. You see the posts, but you don't know what's going on behind the camera." Take the Pressure off Special Days

While Valentine's Day and other special occasions are great for celebrating love,  the relationship expert said they should not be the only measure of the relationship's health. According to Stavola, it is important to cultivate a culture of appreciation and affection throughout the year.“Express your love through spontaneous acts of kindness, heartfelt conversations, and shared experiences that reinforce the strength of your connection daily,” Stavola said.

Implement the 222 Rule:

Stavola advocates for the implementation of the "222" rule as a practical strategy for maintaining intimacy and connection within a relationship. The "222" rule entails dedicating two hours of focused, uninterrupted time together each week, fostering meaningful communication and quality bonding experiences.“If your partner likes reading, by a book, or if they like watching movies, go out and do it.  Find out about your partner,” Stavola said.  She added, “Dating is not about fixing your partner, but connecting with them by sitting and listening.” Stavola also provides advice for singles.“Stay engaged with yourself.  Take yourself out on self-dates, take yourself out on a weekend staycation somewhere.  Find things you can do for free and alone. The more you know about you, the more you can offer someone else.”

By implementing relationship coach Natalie Stavola's practical tips and insights, couples and dating partners can nurture a love that transcends the fleeting romance of Hallmark Days and withstands the test of time.
