Edwina Gray: From Marketing Maven to R&B Powerhouse with Purpose and Soul

By Tammy Reese

Edwina Gray is no stranger to powerful storytelling, but this time, the story is her own. After years of helping brands and artists shape their narratives through her marketing agency Lady in the Red Dress, Edwina has stepped into the spotlight as a rising R&B artist. Her debut EP, Terms and Conditions, is more than just a musical project, it is a personal manifesto of love, self-worth, and spiritual alignment. With themes like Clarity, Timing, Celebration, and Resolve, the four-track journey reflects the voice of a woman who has spent a lifetime elevating others and is now reclaiming her own power through music. In this exclusive Heart of Hollywood interview, Edwina opens up about finding her sound, balancing multiple passions, and why stepping into purpose has been her most rewarding project yet.

You built a successful career in marketing and storytelling for others. What was the moment you knew it was time to start telling your own story through music?

Edwina: Honestly, I always hoped it would eventually make sense, but I never quite knew how. The deeper I got into marketing, the more I felt like my own voice was getting lost. That changed when I joined Develop The Artist Within You, a platform created by world-renowned vocal clinician Dileesa Hunter. I was brought on as a branding lead, alongside California publicity powerhouse Jeremy Glover. Being surrounded by artists seeing where strategy was missing sparked something in me. I realized I might actually have a shot… if I approached it the right way. The rest isn’t exactly history it’s a lot more layered than that. But maybe we will get the chance to unpack it more in another conversation.

Your EP Terms & Conditions is structured around themes like Clarity, Timing, Celebration, and Resolve. What else can you tell us about it?

Edwina: I started noticing just how contractual life had become and not just in business. Love, family, friendships… so many of our connections have unspoken terms. That is not necessarily bad, it is just real. And if everything is indeed contractual, then we need to know our own Terms & Conditions or we will keep getting the short end of the deal, often without even realizing why.

How do you hope listeners feel after experiencing the full EP from start to finish?

Edwina: First and foremost, I hope it feels fun and exciting in some way. But right after that, I want listeners to reflect to really evaluate their relationships, both personal and professional. Do the people and partnerships that matter most truly know your terms? If not, that gap can lead to disappointment or even harm. This project is both a celebration and a caution sign.

What does being in the music industry mean to you?

Edwina: For me, it’s a sacred outlet, a home for my sound and my spirit. My goals are anything but traditional. I am an artist, a strategist, and now Head of Marketing + A&R for a major indie label. I wear a lot of hats. But I believe every part of this journey is intentional, and I am genuinely excited to see what God makes of it all.

What is a super fun fact about yourself that many people are not aware of?

Edwina: I am actually a recluse at heart. I gain the most clarity and peace in complete silence. I am also deeply spiritual I do not think any of this would be possible without a strong spiritual foundation. I remember the first time I posted covers online, it nearly broke me. I was terrified. I cared too much about what people might think. Now, I rest knowing my music will reach exactly who it is meant to. And if it is meant for you? It’s rated E for everybody. Come get you some Terms & Conditions.

What have been some of the most memorable moments in your career so far?

Edwina: One of the biggest revelations has been how powerfully obedience is rewarded. Vulnerability is scary but the rewards are real. Learning how resilient I have been its own form of encouragement. I did not do any of this because I had to. I am not a starving artist. I chose this because my soul was hungry and that is what makes it all unforgettable.

Any upcoming events, additional projects or exclusive news you can share with us?

Edwina: Yes! You can expect official music videos from the EP and a very special acoustic version of one of the tracks that I think will hit home for a lot of people. As for performances, I have two major upcoming events and several private engagements. One I am especially excited about is The Space Tunez First Annual Underground Festival, where I will be performing alongside viral sensation Jhonnie DamnD and local icon Young Black.

What would you like to say to your supporters?

Edwina: Thank you. Truly. There’s a real reward in aligning with my sound and my journey. I do not take your time or energy for granted. Come along for the ride, you’ll be tremendously blessed for it.
