Updated: Aug 7

By Tammy Reese

In the rapidly changing realm of media and entertainment, some people shine not only for their skill but also for their relentless determination and significant impact. Nino Reyes, an Afro-Latina journalist and digital marketer, exemplifies this with her inspiring career journey, characterized by hard work, resilience, and determined spirit. Her extensive influence across the entertainment, music, and advertisement sectors makes her a formidable presence.

Nino, your career is incredibly diverse and impressive. Can you start by telling us what it’s like to juggle your roles at Lincoln Center and the Walt Disney Company?

Thank you! It’s definitely a balancing act, but I love every minute of it. At Lincoln Center, I get to work on marketing campaigns that have a global reach, promoting the performing arts to a diverse audience. On the other hand, my role at Disney as a Media Operator for ESPN+ and Star+ allows me to dive deep into programming and content management, while working heavily on the tech side. Both roles complement each other and keep me engaged with different facets of the media world.

You’ve collaborated with some major organizations like BET, The NAACP, and American Express. How have these experiences shaped your career?

Each collaboration has been a learning experience and has helped me grow both professionally and personally. Working with BET and The NAACP, for instance, allowed me to engage with important cultural and social narratives, which is something I’m very passionate about. Working as a press ambassador allows me to sharpen my publicist skills and this solidifies me in the entertainment business as a powerhouse. My time at American Express and other advertising agencies have helped honed my skills in digital marketing and strategic planning. These roles have all contributed to my multifaceted skill set and have given me a broad perspective on the industry.

You’ve had the opportunity to work with numerous high-profile artists and socialites. How have these interactions enriched your career?

It’s been an incredible journey. Working amongst artists like Casanova 2x, Bobby Brown, Trevor Jackson has not only been enriching but also humbling. These interactions have allowed me to give these artists a platform to share their stories, art, and perspectives. It’s been an honor to feature their voices on national platforms like Bleu Magazine and StationHead, and it’s solidified my status as a reputable journalist.

Your oratory skills are also quite remarkable. Can you share more about your experience moderating the African-American Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Business Across the Tri-State’ event?

That was an unforgettable experience. Hosting the ‘Business Across the Tri-State’ event at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia was a huge honor. Leading a panel of esteemed state representatives and facilitating discussions on vital topics such as business and entrepreneurship was both challenging and rewarding. It allowed me to showcase my moderation abilities and make a lasting impression on attendees. It also allowed me to dive into a different realm of politics and business.

You’ve been heavily involved in mentoring through public-speaking engagements on platforms like the Black Women in Media Conference and Black Girls in Media. What drives you to mentor the next generation of media professionals?

Mentorship is incredibly important to me. Sharing my journey and insights with other women in the industry, especially through events like the Black Women in Media Conference, is my way of giving back. Leading masterclasses and discussions on journalism and media helps shape the next generation of professionals. It’s my passion to empower young women of color and inspire them to pursue their dreams in media.

You’ve also been a strong advocate for empowering women in business. Can you tell us about your role at the ‘Women’s Business Conference’ hosted by Women in the Black?

As a Moderator at the ‘Women’s Business Conference,’ I had the opportunity to engage and inspire women entrepreneurs. This role underscored the importance of diversity and inclusion within professional spheres. It was a powerful experience to highlight the contributions of women in business and to advocate for more inclusive practices within the industry.

What drives you to excel in these diverse areas of your career?

The power of storytelling is my biggest motivator. Whether it’s through journalism, marketing, or public speaking, my goal is to connect with people, share meaningful stories, and inspire others to pursue their passions. Creating positive change and serving as a role model, especially for young women of color, is what keeps me going. I love to use my experience as a woman who grew up in the Bronx, NY as a form of representation, to show young women that your socio-economic background should NEVER stop you from dreaming and attaining your dreams.

Your journey is truly inspiring. What message would you like to share with those aspiring to enter the media industry?

I would say, never underestimate the power of hard work and dedication. Stay true to your passion and always strive for excellence. The media world is vast and full of opportunities. With determination and a commitment to your goals, anything is possible. Dream BIG and know that you’re completely capable of attaining all your dreams.
