Blending Beats: The Evolution of Music Through Classical Composition and Rap Through FaceVsIt

By Tammy Reese

In a world where genres often remain distinct, FaceVsIt stands out by seamlessly blending the timeless sophistication of classical composition with the raw energy of rap. This unique fusion not only showcases his versatile talent but also paves the way for a new musical landscape. FaceVsIt’s journey from a young poet inspired by hip hop to an artist who skillfully integrates diverse musical elements is a testament to his creativity and dedication.

What inspired you to pursue a career in both composition and rap, and how do you balance the two disciplines in your work?

I was a young kid writing poetry and hip hop spoke to me, so rap was naturally what it evolved into.

Can you describe your creative process when composing a new piece of music versus writing rap lyrics? How do the two processes differ and complement each other?

I’m a rapper and songwriter so I mainly focus on that. I do bring my producers references and we usually build from there. Specifically, when working with THX beats. However, when it comes to rapping its usually something I got on my mind or certain way I’m feeling that inspires me to write a song.

How do your experiences and skills as a composer influence your approach to producing and performing rap music?

Only rap and song write but my experiences are in everything I write about. Whether something I experienced personally or witness. I believe hip hop is something we use to tell our stories in our own ways.

Are there any particular composers or rappers who have significantly influenced your style and approach? How have they impacted your work?

Its crazy because of course the mainstream greats like Tupac, Eminem, Nas, Biggie, Big Pun, B real really influenced me along with underground legends like Atmosphere, Immortal Technique and many others but outside of hip hop there was so many. Everyone from Julio Jaramillo to Hector Lavoe, Oscar De Leon definitely have an influence on me and my sound.

Can you share an example of a project where you successfully integrated elements of classical composition with rap, and what was the outcome?

I don’t make beats but my producer THX beats definitely merged sounds influenced by salsa, cumbia, merengue, pasillo in our sound.

How do you see the future of music evolving with the blending of genres like classical and hip hop?

What role do you hope to play in that evolution? My music merging all the sounds I just mentioned is part of that evolution.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are interested in exploring multiple genres and disciplines in their music careers?

Do what you enjoy, trust yourself and how music makes you feel, and never stop.
