Actor Spotlight: Rob Malloy

By Tammy Reese

Heart of Hollywood Magazine is thrilled to spotlight rising actor, Rob Malloy. We got to catch up with Rob and get an in-depth conversation about his thriving acting career that began a little over a year ago.

Rob Malloy can be seen on Fantasy Football, The Game and Johnson. He has a few more roles that soon will be announced but, he’s most excited about is the stage play “Recognizing Mr. Right” which is set to tour and starting off in Huntsville, AL this February.

What do you love most about being an actor and what steps did you take to prepare for this demanding and creative career?

For me, everything is about how I get to make a positive impact on the lives of others. As an actor, you get to do that with every role that you have. Even as an “extra” — those roles aren’t small roles. Those roles add texture and depth to the moment that couldn’t happen without them. I love that as an actor I have the opportunity with each and every role to create a special life changing moment. Preparing for this career was much more challenging than I anticipated. When I film, I am on the set for 12+ hours per day. I had to retrain my body to rest and allow my mind to shut down, so I could focus completely on my character. It is something that I am still working on.

Who are some actors you admire and why?

I am a huge fan of Viola Davis, Morgan Freeman, Larry David, Samuel Jackson, and Bert Reynolds are just a few that come to mind. I am a fan of these actors because they didn’t get famous until well into their 40s. They serve as a reminder that incredible accomplishments can happen after the age of 40. I am 47 and I am just beginning this acting career — but they did it, so it reminds me that with hard work, I can too achieve my goals as an actor.

What have been some of your most memorable moments so far in your career?

My most memorable moment thus far has been my appearance on The Game. I have been a huge fan of the show and seeing myself on a show that I have been a fan of for years has been an incredible experience.

Who would you love to be on set with one day?

I would love to be on the set with Samuel Jackson, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Taraji P. Henson.

What has been the most challenging role yet and why?

My most challenging role was my role as an OG in the Internationally Film Awarding Winning Film Senseless The Movie. It was hard playing a drug dealing kingpin because that is nothing like my real-life personality. I am not aggressive, but that role required me to be aggressive.

What is a role that you look forward to playing one day?

I would like to play God in a movie. I know it may seem strange, but I believe that would be an incredible role to play.

What advice would you have for aspiring actors?

Go for it. Take every opportunity to practice your craft and learn from more experienced actors. Do not let anyone tell you that you are not able to be successful in the arts. Confidence is your biggest strength in any creative career.

What impact do you want to make in the entertainment industry?

I want to show that there is a place in the entertainment industry for the Silver Foxes and Foxies. Just because we are 40+ does not mean that we don’t have something to add to the entertainment experience.
