Ten Tips To Fit Exercise Into Your Busy Schedule

By Batista Gremaud

The primary excuse people do not work out is a lack of time, or so they say. However, the question is not how much time we have but how we prioritize, manage, and set boundaries to get things done.

One of the biggest time savers is the Pareto principle: 20% of your activities produce 80% of the desired results. So the idea is to focus on the 20% of your actions that give you the most results.

There are many ways to go about this. Here are a few

1. Declutter Your Environment

A cluttered environment can impede your ability to focus on tasks and be a safety hazard if items are scattered around and could cause you to trip or block your exit in an emergency. On the other hand, decluttering your environment can help you to be more productive and efficient with your time. It can also help to reduce stress levels and promote a sense of calm. A cluttered environment is often a reflection of your inner state. When your mind is confused with thoughts and chaos, your environment often is as well.

2. Declutter Your Mind

Meditation can declutter your mind by providing a consistent way to focus your attention. Meditating allows you to focus on the present moment. This can help you become more aware of your thoughts and emotions and less reactive to them. Over time, you can learn to let go of thoughts and feelings that are no longer helpful and focus on those who are more valuable. This can help you to live in the present moment and to make choices that are more in line with your values.

3. Workout With Intention And a Plan

Staying fit and healthy requires regular exercise and eating a balanced diet, which can seem like much work, but it pays off in the long run. Fit and healthy people have more energy, are more productive, and require less medical care, saving time, money, and energy in the long run.

"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise, we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear."
Buddah

A specific workout program provides many benefits:

  • Enable you to make the most of your time

  • Allows you to work towards your goals in the most efficient way possible

  • It helps to hold you accountable

  • It helps to keep you motivated and on track.

Furthermore, a plan can provide structure and focus to your workouts and assist you in better measuring your progress over time.

4. Stop Multitasking

One of the biggest time-wasters is multitasking. Despite what you may think, studies have shown that multitasking is less efficient than focusing on one task at a time.

When you try to do two things simultaneously, your brain has to switch back and forth between the two tasks, which takes up valuable time and energy.

Instead of multitasking, focus on one task and give it your full attention. You'll be surprised at how much more productive you are. And that goes for staying off your cell phone while at the gym and staying focused.

5. Make Time For Self-care

Self-care is vital because it allows you to recharge your batteries and prevent burnout, making you more likely to be productive and efficient, saving you time in the long run.

Taking breaks improves productivity. So, make sure to take breaks throughout the day to rejuvenate yourself. For example, go for a walk, nap, or step away from work to clear your head.

Remember to schedule time for rest and recovery. This is integral to any fitness routine and will help you avoid injury and burnout.

6. Plan Ahead

One of the best ways to save time is to plan your day, week, or month in advance. You can save much time in the long run by taking a few minutes each day or week to plan your schedule.

If you want to stick to your workout plan, you must set a schedule that you can reasonably stick to. For example, if you're trying to fit in a workout between work and taking care of the kids, you might need more time for a long session at the gym. So plan accordingly and be realistic about what you can realistically achieve.

7. Make a Backup Plan.

Even with the best-laid plans, sometimes things prevent you from sticking to your workout schedule. That's why it's essential to have a backup plan, such as doing a shorter workout than you had initially planned. Having a backup plan can help you stay on track.

8. Set Time Limits and Keep a Time Log

Another great way to save time is to set time limits for your tasks.

Setting a time limit allows you to focus and finish the task more quickly.

I like to use the Pomodoro Technique to set time limits for my tasks. It's a simple technique where you work for 25 minutes and then takes a 5-minute break. Then, after 4 "Pomodoro," you take a more extended break.

By keeping a time log, you can better understand where your time is going and where you can save time.

9. Limit Distractions

In our constantly connected world, getting distracted by our phones, emails, social media, and other digital devices is very easy.

Instead of constantly being distracted by these things, try to limit your exposure to them. Turn off notifications to stop wasting time and avoid distractions. If someone can't reach you, they'll leave a message. Set a time to check social media and emails

10. Make It Social

Include your kids in your workouts or go for a family walk or bike ride together. This is a great way to get in some quality time together while also getting active.

Find a workout buddy, and exercise with a friend or family can make the time fly by and make working out more enjoyable. If you have a long lunch break, go for a walk or run with a co-worker. If you only have a short lunch break, take advantage of it by doing quick bodyweight exercises. You might even start a new trend at the office!

Time Is Subjective

Some believe that time is a precious commodity given to us by a higher power and that we should use it wisely. Others may feel that time is an infinite loop in which we constantly move and that there is no real beginning or end. Still, others may believe that time is a measure of our soul's journey through the universe and that it is not linear but somewhat cyclical.

Whatever your beliefs, there is no denying that time is a concept that has intrigued humans since the beginning of our existence.

Ultimately, what you do with your time is up to you. So make the most of it by following these tips.
