What would you like to share with our readers today?
Each of us has a special gift that only we as individuals can share with the world.
How do you personally define empowerment, and what role has it played in your journey as a community leader?
The power in reaching one’s maximum potential is within. Even beyond self-empowerment, we must find and hone; what I call our “superpower”, that particular something that makes us soar with ease, then, sought by others! This power causes us to activate the law of attraction from within.
In what ways do you actively empower individuals in your community to take ownership of their own development and success?
I understand the power of proximity. You see, Federal Way, is not just where I live and reside, it’s my mission field. Daily, I rise with the pulse of the 103k citizens that call it home! 24k children in our school district, speaking 115 first languages! The 105 commissioned police officers and so on. Federal Way is my runway to the rest of the world.
How has your experience in bringing together nonprofits and community organizations contributed to a culture of empowerment in Federal Way?
In my estimation, one of the greatest music collaborations in history was Eminem featuring Elton John at the 2001 Grammy Awards. I was 26 years old and decided that day, I would always seek collaboration with others, even if they were not in my faith community. The duet fascinated millions. Yes, they are both musical geniuses. We all know, they create music from totally different genres and styles. The fact they were courageous enough to leave their corners for a moment and deepen their reach is inspiring beyond words.
What core principles guide your leadership style, and how do they align with the idea of empowering those around you?
Modeling What I Demand from Others, Integrity Without Grey Areas, Humility, Family First. I simply demand of myself and from those who work alongside me.
What daily practices or routines do you engage in to maintain your own sense of empowerment and motivation?
Daily Prayer, Gratefulness, Fully Engage My Wife & Kids Daily, Walk for Exercise, Read & Listen To Profound Leaders, Interacting With Food That Supports High Energy & Motivation
Who has been a significant source of inspiration in your life when it comes to empowerment, and how have they influenced your journey?
My Grandmother, who trailed from Hattiesburg Mississippi by way of Chicago. She was a woman of excellence, grace, and integrity. She lived to be 91 years old. She pastored one church for 51 years. Her impact was so deep on her community, they named an elementary school and park in her honor. What stands out most. Nothing came out of her mouth that she wasn’t living masterfully. If she said it, she was teaching the “master class”!
How do you believe empowerment contributes to resilience in individuals and communities, especially during challenging times?
To be empowered is not solely to fulfill a task. Empowerment at its finest, grants us the grace to be personally filled, then we share and serve others from our overflow. Resilience is partnered with perseverance, perseverance earns us the right to stand tall and still humbly bow, humility suffocates arrogance and pride. Only, after such a process, is when we are selected/chosen to advance in grace and power.
