Some dreams never fade — they wait for the right moment to be unleashed. For Akilah Roberts, that moment came after 15 years in the workforce. Stepping boldly into her lifelong passion, she transformed her love for storytelling into Phenomenal Expressions, a powerhouse brand that’s reshaping self-publishing and literacy.
More than just an author, Akilah is a literary architect — guiding aspiring writers, curating anthologies, and providing editorial services that bring powerful stories to life. Whether through motivational children’s books, self-help guides, or love novels, her mission is clear: to inspire, educate, and amplify voices.
But her impact doesn’t stop at books. As a magazine contributor and community advocate, Akilah is a champion for expression in all forms.

Phenomenal Expressions is more than just a business — it’s a movement. Can you share the story behind its creation and the impact you hope to make through it?
I’ve had a passion for it since my adolescence. I used Hooked on Phonics to help with my word development and I would sit on bed and read books back to back, getting no sleep because I wanted to read what was going to happen next. Over the years I would research publishers in my hometown Rochester, NY and come up with nothing. Scammers were prowling the google so I was discouraged. Once I found out about Amazon being a self publishing company I immediately began to write from a journal. I created children’s books , love novels, self help books and journals over these last four years. With trial and error I made a name for myself and my business.
Phenomenal Expressions offers book coaching, editing services, and anthology opportunities. What else would you like for our readers to know about your company?
I am also a magazine contributor and I assist with promotion of books and business services .
As a mother of two and a dedicated community advocate, how do you balance your business, writing career, and personal life while staying committed to your purpose?
We all get the same 24 hours, it’s what you do with it. I wrote a lot about Time Management and how to balance family, work and love in my Professionalism Anthology, which can be purchased via Amazon.
As a self-publishing author, what has been some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned along the way, and what advice would you give to aspiring writers who are considering self-publishing?
Ignore your haters, especially those who are competition. Stay focused on your goals, accomplishments, and your motive. Feeding into critics can really make a business owner go down the wrong path.
Writing is often described as a form of therapy. How has writing helped you personally, and how do you encourage others to use writing as a tool for self-expression and healing?
Self Reflection at the end of every day is essential to a good night’s rest. You can do this by writing about your day to day activities or your feelings and thoughts towards any situation that occurred. As of lately I’ve been praying more than writing. It helps me to express myself vocally.
What’s next for you and Phenomenal Expressions? Any upcoming projects, books, or collaborations we should be excited about?
My new YouTube Channel is a release for reading aloud and prayer titled Time to Express.
Money Management is the next book topic for the upcoming year. I also plan to create multiple journals for various things.
