The Warehouse & MDR Jetty

On The Town With Richard by R.A. Stermer

The Warehouse 4499 Admiralty Way, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292

This week’s outing starts with a walk to Charlie Beach along the Marina Del Rey jetty. If you don’t know this venue it provides public parking and a pleasant walk to the beach. Marina Del Rey has its own small town vibe and this area is no exception.

After this we headed over to The Warehouse for something to eat. This is a themed

restaurant with a distinct history. The location was conceived and built by cameraman Burt Hixson in 1969 to create the experience of visiting an old South Sea dock. Once inside it does have the feel of a warehouse with wood construction throughout. There is a stage area as well as a second floor and an outside deck with views of the Marina. The décor looks to be that from its original opening which definitely gives the feeling of stepping back in time. The staff wear name tags which say “Cousin” which I learned came from Burt’s feeling that the employees were not staff but family.

The food here is what I would call serviceable, nothing great but certainly satisfactory and a good combination with the setting. We had the Crispy Calamari to begin with and I followed with a New York Strip Steak with broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes. On another occasion I have had the Roast Beef Dip Sandwich with a side of steamed asparagus. All good portions and perfectly good dining options. $$ The prices are reasonable and a value with the outside deck seating. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
