Despite Dr. Kameika Hinson’s many roles as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Minister, and Grief Coach, the one role she’s always wanted to play since childhood was that of a mother. However, in 2007, her motherhood dreams were halted when she was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
Dr. Kameika is now the President of Chasing Rainbows Grief Coaching Services, LLC. She is also the Founder and CEO of her nonprofit organization called Jeremiah’s Journey to Healing Ministries. She teaches women who have had pregnancy or infant loss how to cope, heal and flourish through purpose discovery and storytelling.
What does your business/brand mean to you?
Chasing Rainbows Grief Coaching Services is definitely a name that has meaning. It is said that having pregnancy or infant loss is compared to a storm. The baby that you have after your loss is compared to a rainbow after the storm.
How do your services impact people’s lives?
My services impact people’s lives by teaching them that it’s perfectly fine to grieve. Grieving is a process but it’s when you get stuck at a certain stage in the process is where I make my impact. I teach them how to grieve properly and then I show them how to turn their grief into their purpose. I also impact women’s lives by teaching them to express their grief through writing and helping them become published authors.
How have you built a successful customer base?
I have been on major platforms because I am connected to some amazingly successful people. I’m very introverted but the people in my circle have challenged that to the fullest. With them kicking me out of my comfort zone, I have made several public appearances as well as spoken on several platforms which has caused me to grow my customer base. My coach, Taurea “Vision” Avant, also taught me what to offer on which platform and her teachings definitely work.
What are some tricks you’ve discovered to balance your day-to-day life?
Honestly, I’m still searching for some tricks so if anyone has any, please email me. It’s still hard for me to find balance because I work full-time in the medical field and I run a coaching business. Sometimes I don’t know if I’m going or if I’m coming but I have learned how to prioritize things better by order of importance. That depends on me and my goals.
Do you prefer your comfort zone or to think outside of the box? Why?
I like to think outside of the box but I ultimately end up staying in my comfort zone, if that makes sense. I’ve had to train myself that the preferred comfort zone is not where dreams become a reality. I am thankful for my support systems because they will come and tap dance in my comfort zone with me and ultimately kick me out of it. In order to be extraordinary, you’ve got to do some extraordinary “ish.”
What are some of the milestones you’ve celebrated as a business owner?
This year alone, my business has done a complete turnaround. I joined Taurea Avant’s Inner Circle of the Book Profits Club and I’ve accomplished so many things that I never would have accomplished on my own. I’ve keynoted my own conference, spoken on several platforms and I’ve grown my customer base to over 2,000 women. I can officially say that I’m an international speaker and it’s all because I’m a part of the Book Profits Club’s inner circle.
